My home town of Cork City has recently been honored as one of National Geographic's Top 25 Places to Visit in 2025, marking a significant recognition for this vibrant Irish city. As the only Irish destination on the list, Cork joins diverse global locations such as the Stockholm Archipelago, Brasov in Romania, and Guadalajara in Mexico by showcasing its unique charm and cultural richness.

Why Visit Cork?

National Geographic highlights Cork as an emerging urban renaissance, emphasizing its ongoing development and revitalization efforts. The Cork City Development Plan, includes significant upgrades to the port and docklands, refurbishments of cultural landmarks like the Crawford Art Gallery, and the long-awaited Cork Event Centre, which promises to host a variety of concerts and festivals. The city is also renowned for its vibrant arts scene. The biennial festival Sounds from a Safe Harbour, co-founded by Cork native and Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy, exemplifies this cultural vibrancy. Set to take place in September 2025, this festival will feature an array of music, dance, and literature that celebrates local talent and creativity.

A City of Culture and Community

Cork is often referred to as Ireland’s “fun city,” known for its friendly locals and lively atmosphere. The city boasts numerous attractions, from historical sites like St. Fin Barre's Cathedral and the English Market to a plethora of trendy cafes and bars. Visitors can immerse themselves in Cork's rich culinary scene, which highlights local ingredients through innovative dishes crafted by talented chefs.

Cork's inclusion in National Geographic's prestigious list is not just a testament to its current offerings but also a glimpse into its promising future. With ongoing developments aimed at enhancing both the visitor experience and local community life, Cork is poised to become an even more exciting destination for travelers seeking authentic experiences. Whether you're drawn by its rich history, vibrant culture, or culinary delights, Cork invites you to explore its unique blend of old-world charm and modern innovation in 2025.
